    I would go with a clear epoxy resin if you are going to use lacquer clear coats. CA glues do not work well with with lacquer finishes and will cause a cloudy finish.

    This is one of the things I've been shopping around for and low and behold I received the newsletter with it right there front page! Yay! :) I really wish I had this yesterday. I was rebuilding an A2 rear aperture with tritium and of course one of the detents popped out half way through. Then I was adding a 0.2mm thick washer to a rear peep sight via JB Weld and it kept skiing all over the place lol. Yeah, would have been real handy. I'll go back to the order page now...

    2 questions. Does this heat the edge up and soften the edge? Does this work on harder steels that are harder to sharpen, that I would typically use diamond plates on?

    • @treelineusa
      @treelineusa Місяць тому

      Good questions. As long as you keep the blades moving and not pause too long, it should not heat up the edge and cause the metal to loose its temper. The grit wheel is made with silicon carbide and does very well with harder metals.

    I bought a second-hand knife this afternoon. Made in China but with WW1 stamped on the blade. LAUGHABLY blunt blade - you could actually press it against your thumb and it just left a red dent. Got some 800/1000/1200 sandpaper (I already have the lower grits) and then I'll strop. I clearly have a lot of work ahead of me but it looks like a nice knife with a nice handle. Be nice if I could get it really sharp.

    Hey great vid and this looks like a great little rotary tool. A couple of questions if you don't mind... -- Is the battery replaceable? I would keep it charged and use it maybe once a month. Will the battery hold a charge through long periods of non use? -- How about that quick lock system... it looks incredible. Does it really hold securely? Can I use a cutting disc with no slipping?

    • @treelineusa
      @treelineusa 3 місяці тому

      Hello! Yes. The battery is replaceable. Just don't leave it plugged in all the time. The quick lock system works great! I should work with most bits. It should still work with your cutting disc. It might depend on the diameter or how aggressive it is to know if it will slip or not. Feel free to give us a call.

    Are these cones fine enough to remove 220 to 320 sand marks? I'm trying to restore a large 17th century gilded mantel mirror frame. It's EXTREMELY ornate and finely detailed. Aka; LOTS of curves, crevices, and tiny tight spots. It's carved wood then covered with layers of gybsom plaster then gilding. I'm having a heck of a time getting the gybsom completely smooth before I can begin to buff/burnish with 0000 steel wool before I can begin to apply the gold leaf. If not, EVERY sand line, brush stroke, and even finger print will be visible on the gold finish after the leaf is applied. I've tried gray 3M sand pads. They worked but kept getting caught and shredding on the decoration. Not to mention that I'm terrified that something might snap off. You have no idea how many times I've wanted to send this frame sailing out of the window. 😂 I refuse to accept my failure OR to break out the gold spray paint and be done. I think of the time, love and pride of the long dead master craftsman put in to creating it. That's the thing that spurs me on Sorry for the novel. Though I feel better after this vent fest😊

    How to recoat the grinding wheel? Do you have a video?

    • @treelineusa
      @treelineusa 9 місяців тому

      No video on this yet. It is easy though. Wrap a coarse piece of sandpaper around a block of wood, turn the grinder on, and sand off all the wax and grit until you get to the bare cardboard. Slowly turn the wheel by hand, put a bead of wood glue (like Elmers or Titebond), down the center of the wheel, and with your finger, spread the glue evenly across the entire surface of the wheel. Put a piece of paper under the wheel (to catch any excess that drops), and while turning the wheel by hand, sprinkle the new grit until it evenly coats the wheel. Let it dry completely and apply new wax. That's it! Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.
